When you have a Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Scale Set or VMSS you want to view how many and what instances are running in your VMSS. You can do so very easily by navigating to your VMSS.

From All Service -> go to Virtual machine scale sets. Click on your VMSS to open up in it's own blade. Then from the left hand menu, navigate to the Settings category and click on Instances. This will show you all the instances in your VMSS along with their status.

E.g. in the screen below, you can view 3 instances, 1 of which is in Running state and 2 are in Creating state.
